4chan (also known as 4cuck, the 'cuck, 4channel, and Yotsuba Channel) is an American public toilet created in 2003. 4chan is the only English-language anonymous imageboard that anyone cares about. The website is best known for spawning epic memes nobaldi likes such as Wojak, Pepe the Frog, and Soyjaks. Website activity and total posts-per-day have been in decline since the 2010's, and are now below 600,000 a day. In 2025, 4 boards have been used significantly more than the other boards: /vg/ (Video Game Generals), /pol/ (Politically Incorrect), /v/ (Video Games), and /vt/ (Virtual YouTubers).The site was originally created for moot’s group of weeb friends he had from ADTRW, the anime subforum of Something Awful. The website was created by translating the source code of the Futaba Channel into English. The first board was /b/ - Anime/Random, cementing 4chan's role as a designated shitting street.

The Absolute State

If you’ve been on 4chan for more than five minutes, you’ve probably heard some oldfag rant about how the site “went to shit” at some point. Here is a full rundown on when and why it all started falling apart:

The first major fuck-up that set the dominoes in motion was when moot deleted /new/ back in 2011. /new/ was like the proto-/pol/—ack place where people discussed politics, news, and other related topics. Because of Epstein, (yes, seriously) moot decided that deleting /new/ was a good idea. This is also partially because moot is a homosexual, and a liberal.

These users, now without a home, spread out across the site, bringing their special brand of stormfront-larptardation to other boards, that weren’t equipped to handle it. Realizing he’d unleashed a horde of politically obsessed retards on the rest of 4chan, moot tried to fix his mistake by creating /pol/. The idea was simple: give the former /new/ posters their own board, so the rest of the site could function normally. Unfortunately, however, the damage had already been done and, the culture of /pol/ started leaking out into all other boards. By 2014, it was pretty clear to moot that he’d irrevocably fucked up- modern politics were getting more and more unusual, and /pol/ laid at the center of it. So, moot jumped ship in 2014, passing the torch to Hiroyuki Nishimura, or “Hiro.”

When Hiro took over, there was a brief moment of hope that maybe things would get better. Instead, Hiro essentially abandoned the site and handed it over to a cabal of 'cord Jannies. He barely interacts with the community, and when he does, it’s usually to introduce some half-baked bullshit. Currently, the defacto administrator is a user known as RapeApe, king of the cordtroon jannies. These jannies are the worst kind of power-tripping losers, using their authority to ban people, delete posts, and generally fuck up the site with little regard to the actual rules. On top of this, they literally do it for free. These jannies have been systematically sabotaging 4chan from the inside, over-moderating certain boards while letting others run wild, pushing their own agendas and banning anyone who doesn’t tow the line. In its current sate, 4chan is a sanitized, paranoid, and perverted shadow of its former self, just like you.

Moderation

The main positions among 4chan's moderation staff are moderators ("mods") and janitors ("jannies"). Moderators can delete threads as well as ban users. Janitors can only delete threads and send ban requests to the moderators. Neither mods nor jannies receive any type of compensation for the countless hours of "hard" work they put into the site with the exception of a few high level staff members which Hiro gives a few soicoins to every month out of pity. Mods spend most of their time in the irc and discord erping with each other and only show up to actually moderate once they get sick of banning people who complain about the state of their dying website from the irc for interrupting their jerk session.

The moderation of 4chan has become subject to controversy. Innocent funposters, including appreciators of soyjaks, have become increasingly persecuted by the members of the moderation staff.

Captcha

4cuck like many sites has a captcha. Unlike many other sites however 4chans captcha rigs it for its users. The captcha has a section in its source code where it has a "difficulty". This difficulty goes from easy to "Lunatic" which is the hardest, With lunatic being basically impossible and is meant to prevent you from posting. This is to weed out "bad actors". The captcha also has code for "useFakeCharPadding" and "useInvert". 4chan is the one of the only Imageboards out there to have a rigged captcha. If you have ever felt that sometimes captchas are bullshit on the cuck, this is why.

Anonymity

4chan used to be a site where you could post anonymously. However, over time this has slowly become less and less true. Today, in order to post on 4chan, you have to wait a couple of minutes in order to make a new thread or post. The only way to skip this is to verify your email.
