Tripcodes

A tripcode lets an anonymous poster on 2swagg prove that two posts came from the same person, without there being any account involved.

How it works

In the name field you type your name, then #, then a password:

Anonymous#hunter2

The site hashes the password and shows the result after your name, like Anonymous !Ep8pui8Vw2. Anyone who knows the password can reproduce the trip; anyone who does not, cannot fake it. The password is not secret in the sense of being protected, it is just a shared secret you keep to yourself.

Regular vs secure

• One # gives a standard tripcode. The algorithm is the same one used across most imageboard software, so the same Name#password produces the same trip on other sites too.
• Two ## gives a secure tripcode. This one is salted with something specific to 2swagg, so the same password gives a different result here than anywhere else. A secure trip cannot be reproduced on another site.

Culture note

Using a name or a trip at all is optional and often looked down on. Regulars who always post with a trip get called "tripfags"; the default and expected mode is plain anonymous. Trips are mostly for cases where persistent identity actually matters, like a thread OP who wants to prove follow-up posts are really theirs.
